Catherine joined Franks & Co in August 2009, after having worked for a firm of patent, trademark and design attorneys in the United Kingdom since 2001. She has a general foundation in obtaining registered intellectual property rights and management of intellectual property portfolios on behalf of clients of all sizes.
Commercial & Technical
Catherine completed her Bachelor of Engineering degree in 2000, during which she performed project research into ‘Impact Damage of Paint Systems’ and participated in a ‘Renewable Energies and Hydrogen Energy Technology’ course in Germany. She previously worked for a civil engineering inspection company, receiving industrial roped access and confined spaces training.

Catherine is a representative before the UK Intellectual Property Office, UK Trade Marks Registry, UK Designs Registry, Community Trade Marks and Designs Office (OHIM) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Catherine has handled inventions in a variety of technological areas, for example medical devices, construction and personal safety equipment, lighting products, force-activated sensors, manufacturing processes, packaging, domestic items and games.
Catherine has experience in: identifying protectable subject matter; filing and prosecuting patent, registered design and registered trade mark applications, both in the UK and for other countries; advising regarding unregistered rights; exploring potential infringement and invalidity circumstances; assisting with transactions, due diligence and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
